How to Choose your Wedding Colors for your Chicago Wedding

Choosing your wedding colors seems to be one of the biggest wedding details that your family and friends will be curious about. Planning for your wedding colors is one of those planned pieces of your wedding day that can influence your themes and feelings for the day. Here are some of the things you need to consider before choosing your wedding colors.

The Season

This one can easily be brushed off, but the season of your wedding day may have a large effect on what colors most people will steer clear of or gravitate towards. Generally, you can choose “brights for lights”, like lighter colors for those lighter days. Pastels or other light colors will always work well in the spring and the summer, and darker, cooler colors tend to work well for the fall and the winter. Sage greens are really popular for the summer while emerald greens are more popular in the winter. Dusty Roses are more often found in summer, whereas maroon is more in the winter. Fall colors tend to be burnt/darker orange shades as well.

Themes

If you’re planning on having any specific themes for your wedding day, this can definitely influence your decisions for a wedding color. If you’re having a New Years Eve wedding for example, you’ll likely be sticking with black and gold to match the theme. If you have any specific themes in mind, if you start researching weddings that have those same themes you will likely find a pattern with common wedding colors that would be a good way to emulate that theme.

Your Personal Preferences

If you have a favorite color that you want to use but you’re not sure if it will work with your theme, you can do whatever you want and just go for it! You can really make anything happen as long as you build the aesthetics and the theme around the color. You’ll likely be able to find inspiration online for anything - you may have different seasons than the photos, but it will all come together on the actual day as long as you plan your decor accordingly!

Choosing a wedding color for your wedding day doesn’t have to be super complicated. You should make sure to choose a color that you would like to see throughout your wedding day and make sure to keep the aesthetics of the whole day matching those colors. The day will not be made or broken by your wedding colors, so if you’re feeling the pressure, try not to worry about it too much! Many weddings of today are doing a color palette or a monochromatic theme, so don’t feel like you need to stick with only one thing as well. I highly recommend looking through weddings on Pinterest for inspiration to see what style is going to match your vision best and sticking with it when you find it!
