What to Pack with your Invitation Suite for your Details Shots

There are a few names for what this: detail shots, flat lays, or invitation photos. What this really means is that your photographer and/or your videographer will usually start their day with photos and video of all of your wedding day objects organized in a manner to shoot some beautiful photos. This typically is how your photographers warm up to start your “getting ready” shots. You can opt to have as many or as few items as you would like for these photos, but it’s best to have as many items as possible for some variety in the photos. Here are some things that you should pack altogether and set out for your photographer:

Full Invitation Suite

Make sure to bring all of your items from one extra set of your invitation. This means the invite itself, the RSVP card, the details cards, any extra bits that you added (any ribbon, belly bands, or wax seals are good examples), and an envelope. It really brings all of the pieces together to have an envelope with a written address on it - it can even be a fake address if you would like!

Jewelry and Accessories

Since your photographers usually take these photos before you or your future spouse are taking getting ready shots, you can set aside any of your jewelry or accessories either of you plan to wear. Any necklaces, bracelets, watches, earrings, cufflinks, shoes, veils, hair pieces, or head pieces make a flat lay look extra divine! Make sure that you have someone bring your partner back their jewelry and accessories if they are getting ready in a different place. You can also have these items prepared in each of your individual spaces instead of one place as well.

Both Rings and Ring Boxes

This deserves its own section because it is so massively important your wedding day! Make sure to have yours and your future spouses rings along with their ring boxes if you have them. If you do this, make sure to have someone bring back both of the rings to whoever will have them during your ceremony.

Extra Greenery or Flowers

If you have any florals with you during this time, it really adds a beautiful pop of color to your details shots. If you have the chance and you are having bouquets and boutonnieres dropped off before you’re finished getting ready, ask your florist to give you extra greenery or flowers to add to your flat lay.

Perfume

If you’re wearing a particular scent on your wedding day, it’s always fun to add this to your item list. It’s a good way to be reminded of the scents from your wedding day since you won’t see that anywhere else!

Garter

Many people are not opting to have a garter anymore, but it’s a fun one to add to your list. I personally didn’t do a garter toss at my wedding, but I bought a Scottish garter because it had the MacQueen plaid and I thought that would be a fun way to wrap in my new family name.

Both Vow Books

Since your vow books won’t be getting much attention throughout the day, it’s nice to have them with your other paper items in your details shots. It’s nice way to remember the personalized vows that you and your future spouse wrote for each other.

Family Heirlooms or Special Traditional Items

If you are adding anything extra special to your day that was from your family or passed down to you, make sure to put this with your details items! It’s also a good idea to let your photographers and/or videographers know what these items are and the significance. This is also a good opportunity to tell them about any mementos of loved ones that are no longer with us.

Here you have all of the items that you may want for these photos to remember! If you have any other special items you want recognized, keep them all in one bag/box and then put it out somewhere where you can easily let your photographers/videographers know when they arrive.
