I had heard about Nick being so incredible to work with through my mom’s friends and I knew I had to reach out myself. From the first consultation we had had - I knew he was perfect! Meet Nick Vera:
What is your background? I'm 5'7, love walks on the beach, and candlelight dinners. I'm also pretty sarcastic and a fun-loving person. I grew up in Chicago's southwest suburbs, attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI where I earned by Bachelor's in Communications. Grand Rapids is also where I met my best friend and amazing wife, Susan. I proposed to her in 2012, and she said yes (thankfully), and we married in 2014!
What do you do when you aren't working at weddings? I whole-heartedly love DJing. When I'm not DJing weddings, I'm at home polishing my DJ skills even more. Outside of that, I love to spend time with my wife, host parties at our home for our family and friends, cook, watch soccer, and keep tabs on the Queen of Pop herself, Britney Spears. I love that woman almost as much as I love my wife.

How did you get started in your business? I founded Impulse Entertainment in 2009 and have been a trusted DJ by many venues and clients in the Chicagoland area and beyond. What started off as burning CDs for family and friends way back in the day, turned into creating amazing soundtracks for couples across the Midwest. Having a vast knowledge of the event industry has helped propel Impulse Entertainment to being one of the top-rated choices for couples when it comes to their wedding day.
How would you describe your business or business model? Impulse Entertainment is client-focused and detail-oriented. This is the only way that I truly believe a successful business can be run. We want to make sure that we sit down and listen to our clients. They have the opportunity to tell us what they like and don't like about weddings or DJs. We'll hear their every word and make sure that we execute a flawless event that will not only meet but exceed their expectations! We have constructed an amazing team of entertainment professionals that are ready to bend over backward to make sure ALL of our clients have the best time at their weddings. We make it feel like they are the ONLY ONES IN THE WORLD getting married on that day and are genuinely ecstatic to be a part of their big day!
What are your next moves for your business if anything is coming up or changing? We are looking to expand our team by a few more DJs so that we can continually reach more and more couples who deserve to have a great DJ experience when it comes to their wedding. Year-over-year we have seen a tremendous amount of growth and don't plan to stop leveraging our passion and award-winning skills to just make people happy.

His Favorites:
What is your favorite wedding you worked and why? I can't say that I have a favorite wedding because I have genuinely loved being a part of each wedding I have played a role in from a DJ standpoint. My favorite times at weddings in when I see the couple on the dance floor, surrounded by their closest family and friends, singing a song at the top of their lungs, or dancing with each other. I try to really focus on that for a few minutes while I'm spinning as it's something that you can capture in a bottle. It's a special moment that is happening right before my eyes with two people that have just committed to spending the rest of their lives with each other. There's nothing more beautiful than that. **cue the tears**
That is truly such a special moment! Being able to see the couple with their family and friends having an amazing time is such a wonderful part of being a wedding professional. Having a good DJ that can help foster such sweet, incredible moments is definitely one of the main reasons you’ll want a DJ that rocks!
What is the most interesting/unique/cool thing you've seen at a wedding? Oh, man! Where do I begin with this one? From seeing the father of the bride dancing on a table, to Sparty (the mascot of Michigan State University) making an appearance and stealing a dance with the bride, to a love ballad sung by groomsmen to a groom, another father of the bride literally ruining his dress shoes because he danced so much (seriously, the soles fell off), I've seen some wild things! However, I think some of the coolest moments at weddings from a dance floor perspective are when I DJ weddings that have cultural or traditional dances. Getting to see everyone involved in a traditional Greek, Italian, or Polish dance is so cool! Families are bridging the gaps of unfamiliarity and culture to become one - even if it's just for a night. That's pretty fun to experience.
This totally makes sense! Being able to see your culture showing through on your wedding day is so special. If you have any traditional or cultural aspects you’re considering adding to you wedding, I definitely recommend it! Having your family and friends seeing all parts of your personality and beliefs is really an amazing element to your wedding day.
His Advice to You:

What is something that you wish that couples knew when planning their wedding? A really good DJ doesn't just play music! Everyone deserves to have a great DJ at their wedding. We are so much more than music. From planning, timeline coordination, checking in with the couple, wedding party, parents, vendors, researching the best music, reading the room and crowd on the dance floor, and so much more, it is so important to have a DJ that can handle anything that is thrown at them and deal with it in a moment's notice. I am a type A person through and through and our team does our very best to think of every scenario (good or bad) on a wedding day. However, once the wedding day comes, we are thinking on our feet 85% of the time. It's important that people find DJ that not only can play amazing tunes, but also adapt to the changes instantaneously.
This is so important - and this is exactly why you want to have a DJ with some experience! DJs are experts at reading a room and do a lot more than just press play a playlist, so it’s important to hire people that can work with a crowd well and know exactly what to do with practically any scenario.
