Planning for Rain on your Wedding Day

Unfortunately, there are weddings that end up having to deal with rain. This blog may be a lot more or less relevant to you depending on when your wedding date is - it’s going to be a lot more helpful to read this if your date falls in April, July, or August rather than January or February. Even if you do have a date you don’t think will have rain, it’s always good to make plans just in case it does actually happen. The best way to prepare for your wedding day is to have plans for days that are too hot, too cold, or raining. Here are some things to plan for if you end up with a rainy day:

Have Backup Plans

Nearly every venue that has an outdoor venue option will have some kind of rain contingency plan. If they don’t mention this to you, be sure to ask them what they alternative plan is if it looks like it’s going to rain. Your vendors likely don’t want to be outside if there is a large possibility for their equipment to get wet and ruined, so it’s definitely ideal to move your ceremony or other events indoors or at least to a covered area if there seems to be a large chance of rain. If you’re really wanting to have the outdoors incorporated into your day, try and find a venue that has a covered patio or tent to have your ceremony at so you can still be “outside”. Having backup plans is key to making sure your day can continue to run smoothly for you, your vendors, and your guests. No one really wants to be wet all day.

Bring Umbrellas

This will be helpful for you and your guests alike if you let them know to bring some ahead of time. The best way to preserve your hair, makeup, dress, and the likeness is to be able to cover yourself a little bit. If you’re having your wedding during a rainy season, maybe mention to your guests that an umbrella would be handy. You can also provide a few large umbrellas for your guests if you’re feeling extra nice.

Go with the Flow

While no one really wants to spend the day being wet, make sure to not let the bad weather get to you. They always say that rain is good luck on your wedding day, but really your attitude toward the rain can really influence how you feel about your wedding day. If you’re feeling good about it, make sure to grab an umbrella and take some photos outside - they really make for a cute scene for your portraits! If you’re worried about your dress, just remember you'll probably only wear it once, get it cleaned, and then store it. It’s okay if the ends get a bit wet and discolored - as long as you’re having fun on the wedding day then it will be worth it!

Of course you don’t want to have to deal with this problem on your wedding day if you can avoid it, but it’s always best to have this in mind when the forecast is looking a little wet. Making sure to plan accordingly will also set your expectations so you hopefully won’t be too disappointed. Hopefully if you do have rain, you can remember you’re still going to be married to your spouse at the end of the day so you should make sure to enjoy the day while you have it!
