The Battle of Priorities for your Wedding Day: Time vs. Money

There is a lot that goes into wedding planning. You probably have already realized that there is one main thing that you’ll be deciding on for each vendor and all of your decisions. Will you spend the time making things yourself? Or will you spend the money to have someone else take care of it for you? Here are some of the things you’ll be weighing when making decisions about your wedding day and how to prioritize what matters most to you.

What Comes with Spending the Time

When you decide on spending the time to do it yourself, you become the vendor and usually you have less experience. You’ll be spending more time learning how to do it, actually doing it, and having to store it and move it to the wedding yourself or assigning it to other people. There are always more logistics involved with spending your time instead of having someone paid to do it all for you. This can become a little more stressful having to deal with those logistics, and also understanding that things may not be as perfect as they would be if you hired someone to do it instead.

What Comes with Spending the Money

When you are spending the money on your vendors instead of doing all of it yourself, you are paying for the experience the vendors have. You won’t have to store anything/move anything yourself and the vendor will take care of it. Your vendors will likely be there from start to finish and will be able to guide you through the planning process so there is a lot less stress on you since they know what they are doing and how to help you best to have the wedding day you’ve dreamed of. With spending the money on your vendors instead of spending the time, you can depend on the vendor to do it right and not have to worry about it at all. Obviously this comes with a very different stress if you are not all that excited to be dropping thousands on your wedding day, but as far as the work you would have to put into your wedding it will be a lot more manageable if you have reputable, experienced vendors to ensure that your day works out the way you envision it.

Setting up your Priorities

Knowing what is really important to you means that you can make sure to devote more of your funds to that vendor/thing. For example: would you want to guarantee the dance floor is crowded all night? You’ll want to hire a DJ instead of having to curate the playlists and have someone man the music for you. DJ’s experience with working a crowd and being able to work on the spot to read the room is the difference between curating the playlists song by song that won’t be able to read the room or assigning the task to people who don’t have as much experience. You may actually prioritize that you want to keep your flowers forever which would mean you’ll need fake ones most likely DIYed. You can pay a vendor to put it together for you, or you can put them together yourself. If you really want to DIY your flowers or decorations, you will have to understand the time and space all of that will take to get done.

Make sure you plan ahead of time to ensure that you know what you will need to devote to your wedding - the time or the money. When planning with your most important parts of your wedding in mind, you will know what you can devote your money to and for the things that don’t matter as much you can devote less money and maybe more time. This will help you not have to stress about devoting thousands of dollars to every little thing and know what is really important for you to have the experienced vendors for and what you wouldn’t mind being a smaller deal.
